Layla SPA
Wellness Design & Engineering: Layla Cosmetics SPA

The Concept
Scope: Integrated Design (Architecture, Building Services, Lighting Design, Interiors)
While the store is the brand’s vibrant stage, Layla Cosmetics SPA is its intimate, restorative backstage. Set in the prestigious surroundings of Brera, the design challenge was to transform a historic interior into an oasis of contemporary wellbeing. Our studio managed every stage, from the spatial reorganisation to the engineering of building services, delivering a turnkey result.

Architecture and Interior Design
The project enters into a respectful dialogue with the existing structure:
Enhancing Historic Features: We retained and highlighted the original vaulted ceilings, painting them in neutral tones to heighten the sense of openness and vertical space.
Distinctive Elements: Vertical timber slat panelling provides a unifying element: it adds warmth, improves acoustic comfort and elegantly conceals technical routes.
Materials and Colours: Unlike the sharp contrasts of the store, softness prevails here. Oak parquet and sand-coloured walls create a calming base, while pink velvet seating and the iconic chess sculpture, the Queen, maintain a strong connection to Layla’s identity.

Lighting Design & Atmosphere
Lighting plays a therapeutic role. We avoided harsh direct lighting in favour of:
Minimal Pendant Lights: Fine cables and small lighting elements descend from the vaults without compromising their simplicity.
Indirect Lighting: LED strips integrated into display niches and behind wall panelling create soft, diffused light, essential to helping clients relax during treatments.

Wellness Engineering (Building Services)
In a SPA, technology is essential but should be invisible. We managed the complex building-services requirements for air treatment and temperature and humidity control, integrating equipment, including discreetly concealed or positioned split units, without compromising the clean design of the rooms.

Result
An environment combining the clinical functionality of an advanced beauty centre with the warmth of a private Milanese sitting room, where technical excellence supports personal care.
