Retail Design & Engineering: Layla Cosmetics Flagship Store

The Concept
Scope: Integrated Design (Architecture, Building Services, Lighting Design, Interiors)
In Brera, Milan’s artistic heart, we transformed a retail space into a stage for beauty. Our studio managed the entire process as a single point of contact, from the architectural concept to the building-services details, ensuring complete coherence between aesthetics and functionality.

01 / THE PROJECT
Interior Design & Atmosphere
The project has a strong theatrical presence, designed to immerse customers in the world of Layla:
The Statement Ceiling: The centrepiece is a ceiling installation made of hundreds of semi-transparent fabric blades. This architectural feature conceals building services while also becoming a dynamic light diffuser.
Material Contrasts: Dark walls with textured slate- or plaster-effect finishes create a sharp, elegant contrast with white lacquered display furniture, making the product packaging stand out.
Iconic Elements: A large wall of preserved lichen, a form of vertical greenery, with a raised logo, and a neo-Baroque armchair create striking visual focal points.

02 / THE PROJECT
Lighting Design: Emotion and Engineering
The lighting design was developed on two distinct levels:
Ambient (RGB): A system integrated into the ceiling allows the shop to change its appearance, bathing the fabrics in pink or blue to alter the perception of the space.
Functional (High CRI): Particular technical attention was given to the testing counters and displays. We used light sources with a high colour rendering index (CRI > 90), essential for faithfully reproducing makeup shades and providing customers with a professional, accurate product-testing experience.

03 / THE PROJECT
Integrated Engineering
Alongside the design, we developed the complete building-services scheme. The challenge was to integrate complex climate-control and lighting systems into a historic setting such as Brera, making the technology invisible so that the design could take centre stage.

Result
A Store & SPA that is more than a retail outlet: a sensory environment reflecting the brand’s colourful, bold spirit, delivered with the precision of a turnkey project.
